Week of June 3-7th

WOW! I can not believe the end of the school year is already here! I have enjoyed watching each student learn and grow throughout the course of this year. He/she could not have accomplished so much without your support. I appreciate your willingness to assist me on this second grade journey and I know it will continue in third grade.

Our Award's Day celebration will take place Monday, June 3rd in the classroom. We will begin promptly at 9am. Students will be recognized for earning honor roll and perfect attendance. Students will also share a piece of writing. I will try to post pictures on ClassTag for you to enjoy. The celebration should last about 30 minutes.

Wednesday and Thursday are early dismissal days. We will dismiss at 11:30am on both days. (Lunch will be served.) Thursday is also the last day of school. Unfortunately, I will not be at school on Thursday. I will be attending my youngest son's high school graduation. (I will make sure I let the class know on Wednesday that I will not be there Thursday.)

Relax and enjoy your summer!

Week of May 13-17th

The students really enjoyed the Pocahontas play. The high school fine arts department did an excellent job telling the story through dance. Hopefully, your child told you all about it.  We would like to thank Makaiyla's mom and cousin for joining us, as well as Kalli's mom! We appreciate your assistance!

As the weather gets warmer, please be mindful of the your child's school attire. We complete several activities throughout the day on the carpet and floor. Make sure that your child's top and/or bottom properly covers everything. You may want to send a sweater/jacket because the classroom is often times cooler than it is outside. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Remember, grades 3-5 will be testing Tuesday-Thursday. Although we are not testing, our schedule will be altered to ensure their best testing environment.

Thanks to all who came out to our events last week. We truly appreciate your support. THANK YOU!

Interims will be available for viewing on Thursday, May 9th. As usual, grades are updated by Tuesday of each week.

We have completed all the stories in the Treasures book. We will continue to review previously taught skills. For the reading log, you may read any story/book and answer the questions. Thanks for your cooperation.

We have our last field study of the year on Friday, May 10th. We are going to the District Auditorium at Richland Northeast High School to see a ballet, The Legend of Pocahontas. This is our first time attending this performance and we are excited for the students to learn more. Please view Parent Portal to ensure that you have paid for the trip. We will leave around 9:30am and eat lunch when we return. Please allow your child to wear a red shirt for this trip.

Next week, May 14-16, grades 3-5 will be participating in State Testing. Although we are not testing, our schedule will be altered to ensure their best testing environment.

Week of April 29 - May 3

The weather for our zoo trip was great and the students had an amazing adventure walking around, seeing all the animals! We even saw a few of the baby animals that were recently born. Hopefully, your child came home and shared with you his/her experience.

The students did an awesome job on their Spring MAP testing last week! They have worked really hard and it showed on the test. EACH student increased their score with some just missing their Spring goal. We still have our DRA test to complete by the end of the year. Those will be done during the next couple of weeks.

Thursday, May 2, we will have Family Health Night from 6:00-7:15pm. We will start in the multi-purpose room at 6:00pm with our kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders singing for us. We will have several fitness stations you can visit. Healthy snacks will be available and we will end the night with door prizes. Please dress in comfortable clothes, bring your family and come join the fun! See you there!

We will have our last First Friday breakfast on Friday, May 3rd. We will also have a Mother's Day Jewelry sale that morning. Each item is $5.00. Bring your cash to make a purchase after the breakfast.

Join us Friday evening, May 3, 2019 as we fight for a cure at Relay for Life. Click here for more information about the event.

Please come out on Saturday, May 4th to support the Boys Leadership and Essence Pearls in their Car Wash/Fish Fry Fundraiser. You may click here for more information.

Our Field Trip to see the Legend of Pocahontas Ballet is Friday, May 10th at the district auditorium. The cost is $4. Please view Parent Portal to ensure you have paid for the trip. Also, let me know if you plan to attend, if you have not already done so.

Week of April 22-26th

Hopefully you all had a restful and relaxing Spring Break. Now we are ready to get back to work!

We will take our Spring MAP this week. Tuesday we will take Reading and Wednesday we will take Math. Please make sure your child sleeps well the night before and comes to school on time, ready for testing.

Thursday, we have our field study to Riverbanks Zoo. (Please check Parent Portal to ensure you have paid for the trip.) Make sure your child has on comfortable clothes and shoes since we will be outside most of the morning. Also, please allow your child to wear a red shirt. (This may/may not be a Killian shirt.) It will be easier to spot our students if we are all in the same color shirts.

Friday is our Spring Dance. Please come out and join us from 6-8pm for some dancing and fellowship. Click here for more details.

~From Miss Anthony
This is my last week of teaching and learning here at Killian. The past four months have been an insightful learning experience that I am grateful for. I have enjoyed getting to know each of your students and they will be missed. I wish you all the best!
