Week of February 18-22

There is NO SCHOOL Monday, February 18th in observance of President's Day. Normal hours will resume at 7:30am on Tuesday, February 19th.

We sent home the student's black history research last week. You may use that to gather information for the wax museum presentations. Your child should know at least 5 facts about his/her person. (Please note, we did not make any corrections to the information, such as spelling, capitalization, etc. We wanted to get the information to you to assist with the presentations. However, the students did use the information for an in-class project that we did edit.)

I will be out at a workshop on Tuesday. Please encourage your child to be on his/her best behavior while I am away. A substitute will be in the class with Miss Anthony.

~From Miss Anthony
I have enjoyed getting to know the class while taking on more responsibility. This week, I will be in charge of the math, science and ELA instruction. I look forward to another week of great teaching and learning.

You should have received information about our African American Wax Museum. Students have been researching and working on their information for their speeches which we plan to sent home later this week. Please review the speech with your child so that he/she is prepared for the presentation which will take place on Monday, February 25th at 9:30 and 12 noon. The presentations will be in the form of a wax museum and will last about 15-20 minutes.

February 14th is Valentine's Day. We will not have a celebration; however, if you would like for your child to bring Valentine Cards to share, that will be fine, as long as he/she brings one for each student. (There are 18 students in the class.) Please let me know if you have any questions.

We have early dismissal on Friday, February 15th. Please send a note/email if your child's transportation changes for that day.  There is no school Monday, February 18th

We are proud of all the students for working hard and continuing to learn in all subject areas. I know we will have more students on the honor roll for the third nine weeks.  Please remember return the report card cover signed in your child's folder. You may keep the actual report card.

I have enjoyed getting to know each of your students over the past week. I am sure I will learn even more over the weeks to come. This week, I am looking forward to introducing my expectations to the class. My expectations align with Ms. Watson's expectations and the school-wide rules. My two expectations are 1-remain quiet in the halls and 2-raise your hand when sharing. I am looking forward to  putting these expectations into practice this week with your learner!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! As we reflect on the past year, we look forward to all the great things this new year has to offer, especially in this second half of the school year. I hope you enjoyed your time with family and friends over the break. Now, let's get ready for 2019!

As we review rules and procedures, we will get back into the swing of things in all subject areas. We will begin a new unit in Reading-Better Together. The stories in this unit will focus on how things are better when you work together. We will continue with the previous topics in all other subject areas for a few more weeks.

Homework will also pick back up this week. The reading log will be assigned Monday and is due the following Monday. The vocabulary map will be assigned Monday and due Thursday. Vocabulary and reading assessments will be on Thursday.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am only a phone call/email away.
