Week of November 12-16th

Please ask your child if he/she has working headphones for the computer. We use the computers daily and it is a huge distraction if there are no headphones. Not only is it a distraction, students may  not be able to properly hear the directions being asked causing lower scores on assignments. If you have any questions/concerns in providing headphones, please let me know.

Career day is scheduled for November 16th. Please let us know if you would like to join us for this event.

Literacy Night has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 29th. More information will come.

Week of November 5-9th

Last week was another great week. Report Cards went home Thursday. You may keep the report card; however, please sign and return the report card cover because it will be used each quarter. We are excited about the accomplishments of all students. A special "CONGRATULATIONS" to the students who received Honor Roll Certificates!

There is NO SCHOOL, Tuesday, November 6th. Please take this time to go to the polls and vote.  Because we will be out Tuesday, our reading test will be on Friday instead of Thursday.

Please check PowerSchool to ensure we have your correct contact information on file. If your address, phone number, email, etc. has changed, please send a note so that we may make the necessary adjustments and have current information. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

We have CogAt testing Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. (A letter went home explaining the test in the blue folders on Thursday.) Please make sure your child rests well the night before the test and arrives to school on time.

Thursday is Family Night at CiCi's Pizza in Sandhills. Come out to have dinner and mingle with your Killian family. I hope to see you there!

Friday, October 26 is an early dismissal day. We will dismiss at 11:30am and lunch will be served. Please notify me if your child's transportation changes for this day.

Week of October 15-19th

Thanks for your understanding with the closing of school as the district looked out for the safety of all students, families and employees in the district. Hopefully, you all fared well during the storm. Literacy Night will be rescheduled for another date and time and I will let you know once it is finalized.

Please note that Thursday and Friday, October 18-19 are full make-up days due to days missed for Hurricane Florence.

Please remind your child to turn in his/her homework daily and Homework Journal on Thursdays. I appreciate your continual support. It is greatly appreciated!

Week of October 8-12th

The Book Fair starts this week. Please review the flyer that was sent home. If you send money with your child for the book fair, please place it in an envelope with your child's name, my name and the amount in the envelope. I will allow him/her to go during non-instructional time.

Cookie dough will be back Wednesday! If your ordered, please pick it up on Wednesday. We have no place to accommodate your orders if they are not picked up.

Make plans now to join us for Literacy Night on Thursday, October 11th. We will have two second grade rooms set up with literacy activities for you and your family to explore and enjoy. You may also take this time to visit the book fair to make a purchase. We have taken care of dinner because pizza will be served. Your child may also dress up as his/her favorite storybook character. You don't want to miss this fun-filled evening!

Please make sure you check your child's green folder daily and blue folder on Thursdays. If there are any papers that are not needed, please discard them. You may also want to remind your child, as I do daily, to turn in his/her homework, especially homework journals on Thursdays.

When graded papers are placed in the blue folder, please review the graded papers, sign and return the ENTIRE packet. I will send them all home at the end of the semester. Thanks for your cooperation!

Week of October 1-5th

We had a great visit to the library on Tuesday. The students enjoyed the puppet show, story time, as well as exploring the library. If you have not been to the main branch on Assembly Street, you should go! The Children's Room is a wonderful experience since they remodeled and has a lot to offer. Click here to view the website and see the scheduled events.

Thanks to all of you who came out for conferences last week. If you were not able to schedule a conference, please email me and we will find a time that is suitable for both of our schedules.

Say Cheese! Picture day is Friday! Because this photo will be used for the yearbook, each student will be photographed. If you are making a purchase, please provide the correct amount in the envelope that was sent home with your child. (We are unable to make change.)

In the event that your child does not write down his/her vocabulary words, you may find the words highlighted in the story for the week. (The words are also in the short selection before the story.) Vocabulary tic-tac-toe is usually due on Thursdays. Please let me know if you have any questions.
